RFaxis and Ozmo Devices Collaborate to Enable 5 GHz Wi-Fi Direct™ Surround Sound Home Theater Systems

IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

RFaxis, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company focused on innovative, next-generation RF solutions for the wireless connectivity and cellular mobility markets, today announced its collaboration with Ozmo Devices on a 5GHz 802.11a Wi-Fi Direct™ module reference design, featuring the RFaxis single-chip, single-die RFX5000 CMOS RF Front-end Integrated Circuit (RFeIC™) paired with the OZMO2000 Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ System-on-Chip (SoC) with fully integrated radio, baseband and microcontroller. Ozmo Devices, a leading provider of low-power Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) solutions, extends its list of Wi-Fi peripheral devices ranging from keyboards, mice, remote controls for TVs and set-top boxes, gaming headsets, and to now home audio and high fidelity surround sound speaker systems.

"We are delighted to see our increased attach rates within the fast-growing Home Area Network (HAN) market with the emergence of wireless sound bars," stated Yongxi Qian, VP marketing and application engineering, RFaxis. "Wireless technology is a significant driving force of the next-generation Smart Home, including automatic control of sensor-networked appliances, converged voice/dat communications, and high-quality audio/video entertainment. With an extensive portfolio of CMOS RF Front-end ICs, RFaxis is in the forefront of supporting multiple air standards within the home, including Wi-Fi Direct™. Together with Ozmo, we provide an exceptional high quality Wi-Fi audio experience at an unprecedented cost structure."

"Ozmo's innovative line of Wi-Fi Direct™ chipsets and module solutions are poised to be adopted by leading home entertainment system manufacturers due to our ultra-low power, low cost and low latency designs," said Brian Mathews, product marketing VP, Ozmo Devices. "By partnering with RFaxis, we can offer extended-range solutions with high performance at low-costs."

According to IMS Research, in 2016 more than 60 million audio devices will ship with Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth connectivity, including AV receivers, speaker docks, home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems and sound bars. Indicative of trends taking place in the consumer marketplace, the majority of this volume will be driven by speaker docks and sound bars. As wireless home networking increases, along with consumer expectations of wireless connectivity in consumer electronics, wireless streaming in audio playback is expected to naturally rise.
