Man who claimed to have a bomb robs bank in BGDec 17, 2012 (Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A robber claiming to be armed with explosives took money this morning from South Central Bank. Bowling Green police were investigating the robbery at the 2710 Nashville Road branch this morning. According to Officer Ronnie Ward, spokesman for the Bowling Green Police Department, the robbery happened at 8:18 a.m. when a white male between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 3 inches tall entered the front door of the bank. The man, believed to be in his mid- to late 30s, wore a blue ski cap and a red zip-up hooded sweatshirt and a "scruffy" face -- it appeared he had not shaved in a few days. "He claimed to have an explosive in his pocket," Ward said. The robber got away with an undisclosed amount of money. Though he claimed to be armed, the robber did not reveal a weapon to bank employees, Ward said. "The best that we can understand is he left the bank on foot," Ward said. A police dog was brought to the scene around 9 a.m. in an attempt to determine which direction the robber took traveling toward or away from the bank, but was unsuccessful due to the heavy foot traffic around the business and recent rainfall. Police contacted businesses near the bank this morning to review surveillance footage in an effort to track the robber's movements in the moments before and after the incident, Ward said. Lost River, Jody Richards and Natcher elementary schools locked their exterior doors this morning as a safety precaution, according to Joanie Hendricks, spokeswoman for Warren County Public Schools.
