A dozen reasons to celebrate

Dec 12, 2012 (The Pueblo Chieftain - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Today is a once-in-alifetime birthday for Cody Tritten, who's now 12 -- on Dec. 12, 2012.

He said during an interview last week that he realized this year's date would be unusual "right when 2012 started." Mom Mary Lynn Tritten noted that Cody was born at 12:21 a.m., the year his older brother turned 12. Cody thinks that's pretty special, too, but he said he wasn't expecting an extraordinary celebration this year. He's "a big pasta fan," so dinner tonight will be at La Tronica's, as usual.

He was hoping for an unusual gift, though.

"I just want one thing: a diamond sword," he said, expressing surprise that a diamond-studded toy might be a bit beyond most parents' budgets.

The Connect School sixth-grader said he'd be happy with a portable PlayStation setup instead.

When Cody isn't imagining new video games, he likes to play real ones. But he's confident that someday millions of kids his age will be playing games he invented.

His favorite subject in school is history and Greek mythology is a close second. Both play into his concept for two video games he's working on now.

"One will be about a nuclear holocaust that happens in the near future, and you have to figure out how to find supplies, clean water and food, and fight off zombies and mutants and other stuff," he said, adding that he hasn't chosen a name or marketing plan yet.

The other, which he'll call Ninja Strike, "will have a bunch of ninjas that attack a big city and one of the good ninjas will have to stop the evil ones from taking over the world." The confident, articulate Cody also enjoys "researching stuff on the Internet" such as cheat codes for video games -- and Greek mythology, of course.

Although he enjoys basketball and track, but "gangnam style" dancing is something he can do anytime, anywhere, Cody said, breaking into his favorite moves to prove it.
