Harvard Business School Offers New Executive Education Healthcare Program

Harvard Business School (HBS) announces Emerging Issues in Healthcare, a new executive education program taking place March 3-5, 2013 on the HBS campus. This unique program will examine forces that are shaping the future of healthcare and how leaders can prepare their organizations for inevitable changes in the industry.

Emerging Issues in Healthcare will be led by faculty from across Harvard University. The program will be presented in a unique format that brings together diverse perspectives and expertise for engaging and thoughtful dialogue among participants.

"Emerging Issues in Healthcare is part of a comprehensive portfolio of healthcare industry-specific executive education programs that are part of the HBS Healthcare Initiative," said Das Narayandas, James J. Hill Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean and Chair of Executive Education and Publishing. "The program's broad and inclusive approach to addressing a range of issues will create a dynamic learning environment that is a hallmark of the HBS experience."

The program curriculum explores five key areas: science, regulatory and finance reform, new technology, obesity and service innovation.

"Participants will learn from each other and the faculty about the ramifications of health issues like rising obesity rates," said Richard Bohmer, MD, Professor of Management Practice and faculty chair of Emerging Issues in Healthcare.

"Advances in science and technology are changing how we deliver healthcare. This program will help pull these major influences together for a larger view of the changing healthcare landscape and what leaders in the industry can do to respond to changes."

Faculty will facilitate an open dialogue among participants that encourages debate and discussion about critical healthcare issues, complemented by HBS's renowned case study method.

"We are expanding the learning experience by including open forum-style sessions that will generate a very lively and engaging dialogue on some very knotty issues in healthcare," said Bohmer. "We will probe issues in a way that will allow participants to hear different perspectives and explore novel ideas and solutions that might address these very important issues."

This new program is designed for individuals with more than ten years of experience in either clinical or nonclinical roles. Participants are welcome from all sectors of the healthcare industry including care delivery, insurance, biotech, pharma, devices, diagnostics and healthcare IT.
