Sonus Study Highlights Gap in Worker Productivity

Dec 10, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Sonus Networks, Inc., a provider of SIP communications, released the results of a new report that reveals enterprises may recoup $5,000 in annual productivity losses per employee by implementing mobile Unified Communications solutions.

According to a release, the report, titled "Mobile Unified Communications: The Emergence of 4D Convergence," was commissioned by Sonus and conducted by the independent Webtorials Editorial and Analyst Division. The report takes an in-depth look at the drivers and the benefits of extending Unified Communications (UC) capabilities to the rising number of mobile workers.

Findings within the report include: -The lack of offsite UC capabilities may result in a substantial "productivity gap" between mobile and onsite workers which, conservatively estimated, results in a productivity loss of 2.5 hours per week per employee -Approximately two-thirds of all enterprise knowledge workers are mobile at least 25 percent of the time - a number that is growing with the rise of smartphones and tablets -Approximately 18 percent of projects are delayed because of ineffective team collaboration and an estimated 16 percent of projects are delayed because a decision maker could not be reached As part of the "Mobile Unified Communications: The Emergence of 4D Convergence" report, a poll of medium-to-large enterprises found that nearly one in three enterprises have already implemented a "widespread" or "extensive" deployment of mobile Unified Communications in their network. Driving that adoption is the recognition by enterprises that Unified Communications capabilities could be critical to the success of an increasingly mobile workforce. The report further illustrates why enterprises should view mobility as the critical fourth dimension of Unified Communications alongside voice, data and IT systems.

"Mobility has become an integral piece of the UC puzzle for enterprises," said Steve Taylor, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher for Webtorials. "Enterprises must push their Unified Communications capabilities beyond the office walls if they wish to get the maximum return on investment from their technology investments and the employees who use them." "This latest Webtorials report provides enterprises with a terrific snapshot of the opportunities and challenges to deploying Unified Communications in its current state," said Wes Durow, vice president of Global Marketing at Sonus. "Enabling mobility across the enterprise should be the first consideration as companies plan their UC deployments and that means having a robust, open-standard, SIP-based communications architecture in place that can support employees no matter where they are or what device they use."
