Not-guilty plea in $58 Yuba County burger robberyDec 06, 2012 (Appeal-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Linda man accused of robbing a fast-food restaurant earlier this month pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Yuba County Superior Court. According to court records, James Michael Kidd ordered a meal Nov. 23 at the Burger King on North Beale Road, then jumped over the counter with a semi-automatic handgun when the register was opened and swiped the cash. He escaped with $58, according to the probable cause declaration filed in court. Felony charges of second-degree robbery and burglary were filed Wednesday. Judge Stephen W. Berrier set bail at $50,000, authorities said, however, Kidd is also being held on a suspected parole violation. Kidd, 22, is due back in court Jan. 9 for a hearing. Kidd was arrested last week in Yuba City by the US Marshal's Fugitive Task Force. His criminal record includes a 2009 spousal abuse felony conviction in Sutter County and a 2008 conviction in Yuba County for embezzling money from a 92-year-old Alzheimer's patient, according to court records. Kidd was the second person arrested last week in connection with armed robberies in Yuba County. Carlos Peter Almendariz has pleaded not guilty to robbing two 7-Eleven stores in Marysville just minutes apart. Almendariz, 20, remains in custody at the Yuba County Jail on $100,000 bail.
