RootMetrics Releases New Version of Crowdsourcing Cell Phone Coverage Map App for Android Users

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BELLEVUE, Wash. (PRWEB) December 04, 2012 RootMetrics™, the first independent company to measure mobile experience from a consumer’s point of view, announced today the release of a new version of its crowdsourcing Cell Phone CoverageMap App for Android devices. The free RootMetrics app allows AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon customers to use their Android smartphones to test mobile performance and compare carrier service anywhere in the world. In response to user feedback, the updated app now gives Android users the option of background testing as well as the ability to continue testing mobile performance with the screen turned off.

The app’s new background testing functionality allows users a streamlined option to test signal strength while performing other functions on their phone. Testing signal strength in the background is a great option for customers who want to understand which carrier provides the best call service for their needs in a given location.

Additionally, the updated app allows consumers to run more in depth tests in continuous mode with the phone’s display turned off to conserve battery life. Testing when the display is off allows a user to test data, text, and call service on their commute routes, favorite vacation spots, or anywhere they want to map performance results. Users can set a schedule for testing without having to touch their phone.

“We have a fantastic user base that does a great job of proactively sharing feedback about what works and what they feel would help improve the app’s functionality,” says Bill Moore, CEO of RootMetrics. “With this latest update, we’ve integrated suggestions from the user community and offered them an extension of our current suite of testing tools allowing them an additional way to test their carrier and find the answer to the question, ‘Which carrier is best for me ’” In addition to the Cell Phone Coverage Map App, RootMetrics is publishing a series of performance measurement reports on the U.S. wireless markets. The company has reported on more than 80 markets to date. These RootScore Reports can be viewed at http://www.rootmetrics.com/reports/.

Mobile performance varies depending on where people live, work or otherwise spend time. The results of the RootMetrics RootScore Reports, combined with the geographical coverage maps at http://www.rootmetrics.com and via the Cell Phone Coverage Map Apps, allow people to make better decisions about the right carrier for their individual needs.
