FACEBOOK LAUNCHES PHOTO SYNC: Facebook has launched its Facebook Photo Sync feature to all users, following three months of testing, PC Magazine has reported. The upgrade allows people to automatically sync those photos taken on their phone to a private album on the social network. From there, users can pick their favourites and share with family and friends via the Timeline. Facebook has been testing the new option since August, which allows users to sync up to 2GB of photos, it said.
GOOGLE SAYS GLOBAL REGULATIONS FOR INTERNET NOT NEEDED: Google has said that global cyberspace does not need international regulations as no single entity controls the internet, Gulf News has reported. "It is controlled by the billions of people," Bill Echikson, head of Google's free expression policy and PR, Europe, Middle East & Africa, told the daily. "Governments have a role but the internet has always been an instrument of the people because it is designed to be open and free from the bottom up, not the top down," he said. According to Google's latest Transparency Report 2012, government demands for user data have increased steadily. In the first half of this year, there were 20,938 inquiries from government entities around the world. Those requests were for information about 34,614 accounts.
GOOGLE, TWITTER REACTIVATE SPEAK2TWEET FOR SYRIANS: Google and Twitter have announced the reactivation of a voice-tweet programme to allow Syrians affected by the shutdown of the internet to get messages out, AFP has reported. Google's David Torres acknowledged that many Syrians may not be able to use the Speak2Tweet service because telecoms networks in the war-ravaged country are also functioning poorly. "But those who might be lucky enough to have a voice connection can still use Speak2Tweet by simply leaving a voicemail," he said. "No Internet connection is required, and people can listen to the messages by dialling the same phone numbers or going to twitter.com/speak2tweet," Torres said.
