Research and Markets: More Than a Million Macro Base Stations to Be Deployed In 2012 Down from 2011, but Expected to Rebound in 2013
DUBLIN --(Business Wire)--
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/4np3rb/macro_base)
has announced the addition of the "Macro
Base Station Deployments by Technology and 30 Countries, 2010-2016"
report to their offering.
It is 2012, and small cells, Wi-Fi offload, metro cells and picocells
are all becoming parts of the modern heterogeneous network. But the
macro base station remains the center piece and most important piece of
equipment in the mobile network.
This report, Macro Base Station Deployments by Technology and 30
Countries, 2010-2016 explains macro base station deployments and
shipments. The report starts with the year 2010 and details new macro
base station shipments by airlnk (2G GSM, 2G CDMA, 3G WCDMA/HSPA, 3G
TD-SCDMA, 3G CDMA, 4G WiMAX, and 4G LTE (News - Alert)). Also included are ASPs by
airlink, and the revenues derived from the sale of new macro base
stations for 30 individual countries.
Key findings from this study that covers 30 individual countries include:
- MRG estimates that 1.017 million new macro base stations will be
deployed globally in 2012. While lower than the 1.037 million macro base
stations deployed in 2011, next year is a bounce back year with 1.125
million base stations expected to be shipped. Worth noting, more than
half of the new base stations installed in 2013 will be in China.
- The ASP of macro base stations fell 8% between 2010 and 2011. However
after 2013, the ASP will see a leveling off, maybe even an increase.
While the biggest drivers for cost decreases are the flatter
architecture of LTE, improvements in silicon, and advancements in
antenna technology, today's most commonly deployed three-sector macro
base station will be augmented by four- and six-sector base stations in
future installations.
- Led by AT&T and Verizon (News - Alert), MRG estimates 79,059 base stations will be
activated in the US to serve LTE customers by the end of 2012.
