Wireless company expands coverage

COLUMBUS, Nov 28, 2012 (The Daily Star-Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- About Time Wireless, Warrensburg, has expanded in western Johnson County, Chief Executive Officer Jeremiah Burke said.

With equipment now installed on the Centerview water tower, the service is able to reach about 2,000 households ranging from near Warrensburg almost to Holden, Burke said.

The service has hundreds of subscribers, he said, and hopes to attract more.

"We're covering an area with about a 10-mile radius around Centerview," Burke said.

He said About Time provides cheaper, faster Internet service than other providers, adding the city of Centerview receives a $5 fee for every user to help the city's revenue stream.

The Survival women's shelter in Warrensburg also receives part of the installation fee, Burke said.

"We're trying to make it good for everybody around," he said.

Burke started the service last year from his residence in Columbus after being unable to obtain high-speed Internet service.

He obtained a Small Business Administration loan to establish the business, which focuses on providing Internet service to rural areas where high-speed Internet is not available or is too costly for many customers.
