Wharfedale Technologies helps Canadian Transportation giant to move their SAP Production Landscape to Vblock(R) based Private cloud

Princeton, NJ, Nov 27, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- The customer is a transportation company based in Canada, which owns approximately 14,000 (22,500 km) route miles of rail-tracks all across Canada and into the United States, stretching from Montreal to Vancouver, and as far north as Edmonton. Its rail network also serves major cities in the United States, such as Minneapolis, Chicago, and New York City.

To manage its Financial and Enterprise resource operations, clients have relied on SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for nearly a decade. The company had become a major customer of SAP, deploying SAP applications including SAP ERP, SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (BI), CRM, SRM, PI, EM, TM and Enterprise Portal systems, with multiple production instances deployed across the corporation, all of these SAP instances were installed on Microsoft Windows based technologies with SQL Server as the database. The SAP landscape is hosted at a vendor data center and managed by the vendor.

In the last five years the client's IT requirements dramatically increased which demanded a dynamic IT environment to support growing business needs. Unfortunately, since the vendor hosting facilities were still based on the legacy IT infrastructure practices, it was taking two weeks to fulfill new requirements for provisioning SAP systems. This was not acceptable to the business.

WFT developed a hybrid cloud model for the client, where the customer will move the Production SAP landscape, to an in-house private cloud based on Vblock , keeping its non-production SAP landscapes and solutions including development, and sandbox systems in WFT Cloud where they are secure and accessible.

WFT, leveraging its deep infrastructure and SAP application knowledge, planned and carried out the SAP Application migration from the host legacy infrastructure to a Hybrid Cloud environment in an industry record time frame.

"Many of our customers are big enterprise companies running SAP solutions and they are moving from traditional on-premise or hosted data center to a Cloud for all their Production and non-production applications. In this case it is a Hybrid Model where Production Systems are hosted inside the client's private cloud" said Ganesh Radhakrishnan, CEO, Wharfedale Technologies Inc.

The customer is in the process of implementing new business processes in SAP landscape with an extensive, multi-phased development, a rollout which is taking place within the organization. Provisioning of new systems for production as well as non-production systems had become very challenging within its existing environment. The CIO decided to move the SAP landscape to a Hybrid cloud for meeting compliance requirements and enabling its development team to meet the timelines. A decision was made to move all of its SAP Production landscape to an in-house Private Cloud based on Vblock and SAP solution development and sandbox systems to WFT Cloud.

"The goal is not only to provide easy provisioning mechanism but also to reduce cost by 25 to 30 percent and increase reliability and availability of the overall SAP solution", said Rajeev Menon, VP SAP Practice, Wharfedale Technologies. "While the solution (Hybrid Cloud) provides for scalability and elasticity, internal Vblock based private Cloud satisfies the security and compliance requirements of Production Systems. The biggest part of that savings is liberation from the need to commit to specific hardware requirements for a specific time".

"Freedom from physical capacity planning makes a big difference in costs and is made possible in WFT Cloud, on which the service provider has created a dedicated virtual private cloud within a public cloud as necessary to raise utilization and make operation efficient," added Ganesh Radhakrishnan, CEO, Wharfedale Technologies (WFT Cloud). "Also WFT Cloud provides the customer a "Burst-Out" location where ad-hoc requests for additional hardware can be addressed".

For the transportation business, where regulation and data sensitivity do not compare to defense or healthcare or finance, the risk is low enough that economics outweighed them easily. WFT Cloud enhanced customer confidence with its reliability, stability, security, compliance, capacity on-demand and seamless migration, which met all performance criteria defined by the customer.
