Camanche council revisits adult entertainment establishment rules

CAMANCHE, Nov 23, 2012 (Clinton Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Entrepreneurs looking to open adult entertainment establishments will be hard pressed to find an available spot in the community.

A new ordinance regulating these businesses does all but politely asks these business owners to look elsewhere.

The Camanche City Council adopted an ordinance regulating adult entertainment businesses at a meeting on Tuesday.

The issue was brought to the city's attention following an inquiry from a Realtor regarding the use of the laundromat for an adult book store.

A first reading of the ordinance on community protection regulating adult businesses took place at the beginning of the month.

This ordinance defines adult entertainment businesses, location requirements, sign regulations, licensing requirements and other legal provisions. No adult establishments shall be located on any lot that has a property line within 1,000 feet of the property line of any residentially zoned property, public or private nursery school, elementary school or secondary school, childcare facility, religious institution, public parks or recreational paths, public or private cemetery or public housing facility.

Adult establishments are only permitted in specific manufacturing zoning districts, M1, M2 and M3 or in any commercial district as a special use approved by the Camanche Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The fee for licensing is $100.
