Library upgrade helps patronsCLAREMORE, Nov 22, 2012 (Claremore Daily Progress - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Will Rogers Library is getting an upgrade thanks to a Monday vote from the Claremore City Council. The library will now be getting 30 new computers to replace machines that are no longer operational or out of date. The council unanimously voted to approve the $28,415.50 purchase. When combined with the installation of 10 new laptops the library currently owns, the new computers will bring the entire system up to date. The library received the 10 laptops last year, but due to incompatibility have not been able to install the machines, according to Information Technology Director Tim White. White described the current machines as "slow running" and detailed a number of compatibility issues during the meeting. White explained that the complete upgrade would be needed to get both the patron computers and employee computers compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 and software products. Library Director Sherry Beach described the impact the machines will have on patrons and emphasized the critical need. The current equipment has a "negative impact" on the patron experience and limits the productivity of employees, Beach added. The Library will be ordering 22 new patron workstations, eight employee workstations, 30 software licenses for Microsoft Office and one HP color laser printer. The equipment purchase will be paid for from the library budget. White assisted Beach in saving the city approximately $20,000 on this project.
