Nov 22, 2012 (Lodi News-Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Galt Police Department will join 36 other law enforcement agencies in the Sacramento region during the holiday season to enforce a state law prohibiting use of a hand-held cellphone or texting while driving.

Galt police and other agencies will be out in force between Nov. 30 and Dec. 9 to issue tickets to drivers using a hand-held phone or texting, according to Lt. Brian Vizzusi.

Distracted drivers in Galt talking on a hand-held cellphone or sending text messages will receive a first-time ticket costing a minimum of $159, with a second offense costing $279.
