Active Broadband Networks Integrates Pentaho Big Data Analytics with Its Dynamic Broadband Service Manager [Health & Beauty Close - Up]

(Health & Beauty Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Active Broadband Networks, a supplier of next-generation operational support systems for broadband providers, said that it has integrated Pentaho Big Data Analytics with its Dynamic Broadband Service Manager, providing network operators with a suite of tools for analyzing the stream data collected by the DBSM from network elements in broadband access networks.

In a release, the Company said that the DBSM uses streaming protocols including IPDR, RADIUS accounting and IPFIX/NetFLow to collect network, service and subscriber usage data, which is processed and stored in a Cassandra NoSQL Big Data database.

Network operations personnel run reports against this data for day-to-day network performance monitoring, while network engineers and product managers can analyze the data for capacity and service planning.

"We needed a business intelligence solution that integrated with our Big Data storage system so our customers could easily analyze and generate reports against the massive volumes of data we collect," said Chris Gunner, chief technology officer of Active Broadband Networks. "We chose Pentaho, a leading-edge provider of open-source solutions for Big Data business analytics, because of its ease of use, friendly and powerful report designer, and Pentaho's ability to integrate, manipulate and enrich data during the analytics process." Active Broadband said that its DBSM uses the Cassandra NoSQL database to address these stringent performance and scalability requirements. Pentaho's business analytics platform is pre- integrated with the Cassandra data to provide reporting, analytics, dashboards and data integration.

"By bundling the complete Pentaho Business Analytics platform with its data integration, business analytics and Big Data capabilities natively integrated with the Cassandra NoSQL database, Active Broadband has given its customers a cost-effective and friendly way to track and analyze terabytes of network and subscriber usage data," said Richard Daley, chief strategy officer, Pentaho Corp. "As a result of Active Broadband's unique Big Data offering, its broadband provider customers have the information they need to deploy usage-based services and make data-driven decisions." Active Broadband Networks is a supplier of next-generation business and operational support system solutions for broadband providers.
