OPSWAT's AppRemover Now Supports Removal of Public File Sharing Applications

San Francisco, CA, Nov 15, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- OPSWAT announced a new release of their AppRemover tool today with a new, streamlined user experience and new support for the removal of public file sharing applications. AppRemover, a free tool historically for removing security applications, has been enhanced so that users can remove multiple types of unwanted applications.

AppRemover uses the detection capabilities of OPSWAT's OESIS Framework to see the applications installed on a computer and enable easy uninstallation. OPSWAT, the leading provider of software management and security technologies, developed this free tool to help users avoid the stress and annoyance of uninstalling security applications. While many security applications include their own uninstallation functions, the processes are often incomplete or complex. AppRemover thoroughly uninstalls antivirus and antispyware products, and can be used to clean up a previous, failed uninstallation. Users looking to replace their security application or upgrade to a new version often use AppRemover to smooth the transition.

"AppRemover is a great free tool for anyone to use. With the latest release, we have made the user interface even cleaner and easier to understand," commented Anish Patankar, Director of Product Management at OPSWAT. "We're very excited to enhance the benefits of this tool for the community by enabling the removal of public file sharing applications." The new version of AppRemover shows users a list of the security applications and public file sharing applications installed on their computer, and users can then decide which of these applications to remove. Because public file sharing applications may affect the security of a computer or introduce legal, bandwidth and productivity issues, many users view them as unwanted applications.

System administrators in particular may view public file sharing applications as unwanted; accordingly, OPSWAT also offers a command line interface (CLI) and application programming interface (API) for AppRemover to allow scripted removal of products. These packages of AppRemover support both Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8 and Server 2003) and Mac OS X, while the free tool only supports Windows operating systems. AppRemover currently supports removal of more than 100 different security applications and more than 10 public sharing applications. OPSWAT continues to improve AppRemover by adding support for new products in frequent releases and plans to add support for the removal of additional types of applications through AppRemover as well.
