UAE's Etisalat pushing 4G expansion with China's Huawei [Bikya Masr (Egypt)]

DUBAI: United Arab Emirates telecom giant Etisalat announced it was to expand its 4G network coverage with China's Huawei to boost its LTE-FDD network in the Gulf country.

The first phase of the network, launched last year, covers around 80 percent of the populated areas in the country, with close to 1,000 stations.

Etisalat now plans "to increase the number of stations to extend its 4G coverage in the most populated areas and strengthen the internal coverage for buildings, malls and airports," the company reported on Wednesday.

Etisalat said it "will continue to expand its 3G network in conjunction with the second phase of the LTE project." Etisalat recently organised a visit to Huawei's offices in China for journalists in the UAE.

Mobile Internet is seen as a major boost for the UAE market, with massive penetration on the mobile front in recent years has seen smartphones be the phone of choice for residents of the UAE.
