Nokia reveals plans for its new mapping service 'HERE' [Cihan News Agency (Turkey)](Cihan News Agency (Turkey) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JOHANNESBURG (CIHAN)- Nokia has announced its plans for its newest location and mapping service the company has named 'HERE'. Nokia will reveal HERE the first location cloud that is set to be compatible across a range of devices and operating systems. A HERE maps application for Apple's iOS has already been created by the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer and will be freely available in iOS app store in the next few weeks. The HERE application for iOS will include offline capabilities, voice-guided walk navigation, and public transport directions. The company also plans to release a version of HERE for Android powered smartphones in early 2013. "Mozilla is a leader in HTML5, building the Web as a platform for developing compelling applications, and location is a key part of that platform," said Jay Sullivan, Mozilla Vice President of Products. "We are excited to work with Nokia as the combination of Firefox OS and HERE's location platform provides rich possibilities for mobile application developers to create amazing experiences for users." The Finnish manufacturer went onto note it plans to acquire Earthmine by the end of 2012, Earthmine specialises in reality capturing and processing technologies. Nokia has continued to sink losing mobile phone market share, Nokia's Symbian OS fell from a 14.6% market hold in the third quarter of 2011 to 2.3% in the same quarter of 2012 according to statistics by IDC.
