Youth Center opens a new place

Nov 13, 2012 (Tonawanda News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- On Friday, North Tonawanda Mayor Rob Ortt attended the new North Tonawanda Youth Center location to officially open the Youth Center with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and some words to those gathered.

Members of the Common Council were also on hand along with School Superintendent Greg Woytila and school board members for the ceremony which marked the strengthening of a partnership that benefits the residents of North Tonawanda by sharing resources and services.

The Youth Center, previously housed at the privately owned Gersh Building, recently moved to Grant School, 35 Grant St., in an effort to save taxpayer dollars.

"This move will be better for the children who utilize the center, and it will save city taxpayers $15,000 from what we were previously paying," Ortt commented.

"We are very happy with the new facility," said Alex Domaradzki, youth coordinator. "It's a great fit for us and our vision, and it's owed to the behind the scenes work of Mayor Ortt, the council members, along with Greg Woytila his staff and the school board." The Youth Center is open Tuesday through Fridays from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m., offering a multitude of programs including dance team, cheerleading club, video club, science club, and tutoring services.

Daily open activities include use of pool tables, foosball tables, an air hockey table, ping-pong table, lounge facilities, video games, computers crafts, and open gym activities.
