Advanced Conductive Technology Revitalizes Critical Building and Transportation Networks Impacted by Floods & Electrical Surges of Hurricane Sandy

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)--

PCN announces today that it has released a special purposed packaged system to support end-customers, OEMs, & Integrators whose Serial data networks have been impacted by salt water floods and electrical surges of Hurricane Sandy. Without having to replace any wires, the system enables rapid connectivity and re-commissioning of automation and control networks by transforming legacy copper wires already in place.

PCN is a leading communications company that designs, develops and manufactures robust and rugged networking products. Its products are based on patented "physical layer" conductive media technologies. Key to the technology is a process called "dynamic adaptive channeling" that manages the physics across all aspects of a wire in order to maintain critical networks operational. Key to the products is their ability to drop into any serial based infrastructure for an auto-configuring plug and play requirement.

Floods and electrical surges usually require the change out of legacy wiring due to the physical properties of the wire being impacted to a point where critical automation and control networks cannot be utilized. Reasons could be that the wire is no longer in specification, that only parts of a network will function, or that existing water in walls and floors will impact future functionality. The system being shipped by PCN to customers in the Northeast takes these and other factors into account.

The geography of the region also creates unique burdens in replacing copper. This is due to hard to reach infrastructure within New York, New Jersey and other locations in the Northeast. There are a lot of historic properties where wiring is difficult to replace including locations in baseents, high rises, subways and in other areas not easily accessible. This not only creates a very time consuming process but an extremely expensive one for network owners, operators and integrators. PCN's products and systems eliminate the integration time and costs, as well as the uncertainty about whether a network will be functional and reliable or not.

With conductive management processes happening in real-time, the patented technology by PCN scans disaster impacted wiring and constantly transforms it into reliable and robust communications infrastructure just as if it were new.

This is achieved by advanced algorithms and processes working together to perform a comprehensive sweep of the entire frequency spectrum of the physical wires. The system then calculates the signal-to-noise ratios (SnR) across all frequencies on every interconnected wire. Once a selection of data carrier frequencies is obtained, the PCN system aligns proper (QoS) Quality of Service requirements for the network across the entire system. The resulting frequencies represent the real time usable communication channels at any given moment. With the analysis and selections carried out over 500 times per second in real-time; the network is constantly optimized for critical network usage on the existing wires already in place, regardless of water or surges.

Developed for robust and reliable applications within critical automation and control applications the PCN system takes into account specialized networking, architecture, and application needs of critical serial based SCADA networks. SCADA, or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition networks are used to transport command and control data ensuring safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructure. Essential services include access control, building management, electricity, water, natural gas, waste water, heating, transportation and many other critical services which all rely on reliable SCADA networks.

PCN has added specialized personnel at its San Diego Headquarters and Missouri support center to assist impacted customers. A 24/7 information center hotline has also been set up for information, support, integration, and ordering. Through December 31st PCN will also donate 10% of its profits to the Red Cross or other organizations focused on Hurricane Sandy relief. Customers also have the ability to choose and direct donations to their preferred relief organization.
