Nov 13, 2012 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- For the first time in what seems like an eternity, an iPhone is no longer the single best-selling smartphone. At least for now.

Figures released by Strategy Analytics indicate the Samsung Galaxy S III took the crown for July, August and September with an estimated 18 million shipments. The iPhone 4S was second at 16.2 million shipments, followed by the iPhone 5 at 6 million.

A closer look at the numbers show why the Galaxy S III took the title -- the iPhone 5 was released at the end of that period and dragged down sales of the 4S. Nearly everyone expects the iPhone 5 to be on top for the current quarter, assuming the device's manufacturing problems aren't a bigger drag than we've been lead to believe.

Even so, these figures illustrate just how much of a powerhouse Samsung has become in the smartphone world.

New Windows products just keep on rolling out. Although Windows 8 and the Surface tablet dominated a couple weeks ago, HTC's Windows Phone 8X, the first phone to run Windows Phone 8, is starting to become available at AT&T.

I'm looking forward to trying the new phone since I've always had a fondness for the slick and appealing tile interface of Windows Phone 7. However, it remains to be seen how much Windows 8 has kept up with the advancements of other smartphones.

Beyond that, I'm curious to see if the new operating system will help Windows phones sell better. Even though the tech world seems to like Windows Phone 7, phones running the Windows operating system have sold horribly. Now that Windows 8 is out for PCs and tablets and looking exactly like the phone version, will people stop to give it another chance Pinterest has become massively popular, but it hasn't been a private experience. You either shared pins of your pictures with the universe, or you didn't pin at all.

That's finally changed now that the social network has rolled out secret boards. Users can designate up to three boards as secret and then designate which friends or family members can have access to the boards.

The button to create a secret board is at the bottom of the Pinterest profile page, though you can also toggle a new board to secret while you're creating it.
