Tigard police think same suspect is behind two robberies at coffee shop

Nov 08, 2012 (The Oregonian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Tigard police think the same suspect is behind two robberies that occurred within two weeks at Black Rock Coffee Bar.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Tigard officers received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a man entered the coffee shop through the drive-thru window and robbed the business, said Jim Wolf, Tigard police spokesman. Inside the shop, located at 15290 S.W. Pacific Highway, the man showed an employee a handgun and demanded cash.

The man, who was wearing a bandana over part of his face, then ran, Wolf said. Tigard police arrived minutes later and used a police tracking dog to search for the suspect, but he could not be located.

No one was injured.

Wolf said the suspect is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build. At the time of the incident, he was said to be wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and dark-colored pants.

The coffee shop was also robbed on Oct. 27, Wolf said. During that incident, an employee called 9-1-1 about 6 p.m. to report a man had pushed his way through the window of the drive-up.

The employee pushed him away, but the suspect made a second attempt, got inside, showed a knife and demanded money from the till. After the employee gave him money, the man went back out through the window and ran away. No one was injured.

Police searched for the suspect, but couldn't find him. Officers did recover several dollar bills left nearby, Wolf said.

During that incident, the suspect was described to be in his 20s.

Tigard police now say they are now seeking the same suspect in both crimes. The Tigard community has shown support for the business following the two robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tigard police at either 503-718-2576 or [email protected].
