BRIEF: Forum scheduled in Paso Robles for students considering military career

Nov 09, 2012 (The Tribune (San Luis Obispo - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Congressman Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, plans to hold a forum Saturday in Paso Robles for students looking for careers in the United States' military academies, according to a news release from his office.

The Army, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marines and Coast Guard each have an academy.

The application procedure to receive a congressional nomination to one of the five academies will be presented along with briefings and video presentations by McCarthy and academy officers, the statement said.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy offers appointments solely through a nationwide merit-based competition, and there is no congressional nomination required, officials said.

Academy cadets and midshipman will also be on hand to provide information on life at an academy.

The event is planned for 3 to 4 p.m. at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board Chambers, 800 Niblick Road.

Reservations are required. Call 461-1034 or email RSVP. [email protected].
