CU-Boulder Women's Council to host summit in February [Colorado Daily, Boulder]

(Colorado Daily (Boulder) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nov. 07--The University of Colorado's Women's Council is hoping to increase the visibility of women professionals through February's inaugural Women Inspiring Leadership Development summit.

The Women's Council -- an outreach of CU's Deming Center for Entrepreneurship -- was launched more than a year ago and aims to connect students with professionals, industry leaders and entrepreneurs in the community.

Amy Lieberman, marketing and communications leader for the summit, said they are expecting a crowd of at least 350 women at the conference, which will be the first of its kind in the area.

"There isn't another event like this in the Front Range area, so we knew we wanted to put something together," Lieberman said.

The summit will kick off with featured keynote speaker Shelly Lazarus, of international advertising and public relations firm Ogilvy & Mather, followed by panels with industry leaders and professionals discussing natural foods, social ventures, education and health and wellness, among others.

"This is going to be a big conversation where we put students, community activists and industry leaders together to share their stories," Lieberman said.

The Women's Council provides CU students with access to business-minded women in the community, said council chair Carol Frank.

The women on the council act as mentors to students, guest speakers for classes and serve as judges for the business plan competition in the Leeds School of Business.
