BRIEF: Wiring stolen from city trucks

Nov 07, 2012 (Statesville Record & Landmark - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The city of Statesville is the latest victim of metal thieves who have plagued Statesville Police Department investigator.

Copper and aluminum wiring was stolen from several trucks at the Statesville City Warehouse, 915 Winston Ave., sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on Monday, said SPD Chief Tom Anderson.

Anderson said the surveillance video from the warehouse is being reviewed to see if any photos of those responsible can be obtained.

In the past few weeks, a number of vacant rental homes have been damaged by thieves either attempting to take or taking copper wiring.

The police department is also investigating the theft of a video game system, games, electronics and jewelry from a home on Walton Drive.

Anderson said officers responded to an alarm call in the 300 block of Walton Drive around 1 a.m. Tuesday and discovered someone had kicked in a door to gain entry. A PS3, games, iPod, laptop and jewelry were taken, he said.
