Woods to participate in telethon for hurricane victims

MOREHEAD, Nov 07, 2012 (The Floyd County Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Morehead State University Head Men's Basketball Coach Sean Woods will participate in a telethon on Wednesday to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The telethon will be carried by Lexington's WKYT-TV from 7-8 p.m. and CWKYT-TV from 8-9 p.m.

During the telethon, donations can be made by calling 859-299-5455 or 1-800-733-2767. Outside the telethon, donations can be made by calling 859-253-1331, 1-800-733-2767 or visiting RedCross.org.

"I'm looking forward to this opportunity," Woods said. "This most-recent hurricane was devastating to people across many states. It's extremely important to give back and assist those who are in need." Kentucky Head Men's Basketball Coach John Calipari and members of the UK basketball program will also participate in the telethon, according to officials from Lexington's CBS affiliate.

All proceeds will benefit the victims of last week's catastrophic storm on the East Coast. The telethon will air throughout the state on UK Network affiliates and will be streamed live on WKYT.com.

"There are millions of people in this country who love the game of basketball -- and I do, too," Woods said. "But when natural disasters like this occur, it reminds us about what's truly important in life." Morehead State fans who make a contribution of at least $100 will be entered in a drawing. The winner will receive two tickets to see the Eagles take on Kentucky at Rupp Arena on Nov. 21.
