PRTC Selects Cyan SDN Approach Over Competing MPLS Solutions(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PETALUMA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/12 -- Cyan today announced that Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) has selected its Blue Planet software-defined network (SDN) system and Z-Series packet-optical transport platform for deployment throughout its southeastern US network. The PRTC decision typifies a growing trend by carriers to remove cost and unnecessary complexity while also demanding greater control over their mission critical services through the use of open software. PRTC is now upgrading its network in order to better handle exploding traffic volumes and increasingly stringent service level agreements (SLAs). PRTC will also deploy Cyan's Blue Planet software, an open SDN system that allows it to quickly add new apps and services. The Blue Planet software works not only with Cyan equipment but also with solutions from over 20 other suppliers.
