Baron and Budd Wins Mesothelioma Verdict for Two Pennsylvania Families

PHILADELPHIA --(Business Wire)--

Mesothelioma law firm Baron & Budd, P.C. has announced a very significant Phase I damages verdict for the families of two mesothelioma victims. The workers were subject to asbestos exposure from multiple products including Crane Co. valves and Garlock Sealing Technologies (Garlock). Baron and Budd mesothelioma lawyer Denyse Clancy represented the families during the trial.

Crane Co. reached a confidential settlement with the families just before the Pennsylvania jury returned its damages verdict. Garlock was the only remaining defendant when the jury returned with its damages verdict because of the last minute settlement. The jury found that both patients were diagnosed with mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure. The two families received a combined $17 million in damages.

When the trial began, the jury heard evidence from Garlock claiming they were not responsible for the two men's injuries. Garlock said that the workers could not prove that their gaskets contributed to their risk of mesothelioma. The evidence revealed, however, that Garlock gaskets contained between 75 and 90 percent asbestos.

The jury reviewed a document-which Garlock tried ineffectively to omit-in which Garlock admitted that the gaskets that contained asbestos could result in mesothelioma. Garlock reached a confidential settlement with the families shortly thereafter.
