World Series: Your TV, radio and online options for Game 1

Oct 24, 2012 (The Sacramento Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Game 1 of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers is set to start at about 5 p.m. today, and options exist for how to follow it.

FOX Sports -- Fox40 in the Sacramento region -- will provide television coverage of the series, as it did the National League Championship Series between the Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. Those broadcasts satisfied many but elicited consternation from others who saw the play-by-play of Joe Buck and color commentary of Tim McCarver as little more than a home-town effort on behalf of the Cardinals, with whom both men have deep traditional ties.

A radio alternative -- this one a definite home-town affair -- is to follow the game on KNBR AM 680. The Giants' flagship station features Jon Miller, Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow and Dave Flemming mixing in for play-by-play and analysis.

National radio coverage will be provided by ESPN Radio 1320 with play-by-play man Dan Shulman and analyst Orel Hershiser.

Finally, Sirius XM satellite radio, a subscriber service, will provide broadcasts from the Giants announcing team (SIRI Internet 863) and the Tigers' crew (SIRI Internet 849).

People who want to watch the game but listen to radio broadcasts have found it difficult to synchronize the radio and television because the TV signal is delayed for several seconds. However, Sirius subscribers have been able to use their television DVR function to delay what they see on television and match the timing with the Sirius signal.

It takes some creativity, but it has worked Online at sacbee.com, the game can be followed via live gamecast by The Sports Network. The gamecast features game animation, statistics and updates.

Also posted online is the complete World Series schedule.

For viewers interested in a more communal experience, Sacramento Connect blog Girls on the Grid suggests five bars where the game and refreshments are expected to coexist comfortably.
