Network Rail Deploys and Standardizes on ETAP Electrical Power Design Software

IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

ETAP® / Operation Technology, Inc., developer of ETAP enterprise software solution for power systems, today announces that Network Rail, owner and operator of Britain's rail system infrastructure, managing over 1.3 billion journeys and 100 million tonnes of freight each year, has deployed and standardized on ETAP as their electrical power design software for Low Voltage Power Systems. Following an open bid process, ETAP was selected for its overall comprehensiveness and powerful feature set, allowing Network Rail to advance their rail system's safety and reliability imperatives through the addition of state-of-the-art power system modeling, design, and analysis platform.

In general, Network Rail will utilize ETAP as their Electrical Power Design Tool (ELPOD) to automate the electrical design process for Signaling Power Supplies, as well as capture detailed electrical design data attributes of signaling equipment. By implementing this integrated solution, and as part of their best practices, Network Rail will improve productivity and reliability, reduce costs, improve efficiency, and embed code compliance in their electrical designs.

Specifically, ETAP will allow Network Rail to reduce the design cycle by ensuring the consistency and repeatability of the design process and minimizing the capital cost of equipment, thus reducing the overall project cost. Their engineering teams will be able to quickly design, evaluate, and implement changes to asses any impacts arising from new signaling system development. Network Rail's affiliates and consultants will also be seeking to standardize on ETAP for their projects to ensure that they move through the design and implementation process seamlessly.

Beyond ELPOD's immediate requirements, ETAP's comprehensive suite of engineering analysis modules, detailed revision tracking, and team collaboration tools will continue to improve the entire engineering project workflow. Capabilities such as ETAP's robust system modeling, shared one-line diagram templates, comprehensive device and cable libraries, and integrated simulation modules have since been utilized and proven to ensure a more efficient and reliable design process.

The requirements for design efficiency, repeatability, and detailed modeling of medium and low voltage systems have been applied to a number of key industry verticals and at all levels of our electrical infrastructure.

ETAP's Enterprise Software Solution is utilized in many mission critical designs including:

  • Aircraft
  • Data Center
  • Manufacturing
  • Hospital
  • Microgrid
  • Nuclear Plant
  • Rail System
  • Ships & Marine
