RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Elster Solutions announced today that Whitehall Electric Utility selected Elster's EnergyAxis® system for its hosted Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment. Whitehall services both electricity and water consumers and is the first of WPPI Energy's member utilities to enroll in the hosted AMI service offered by WPPI Energy. Elster's field-proven technology and product quality were also important factors in Whitehall's decision.

"By enrolling in WPPI's hosted EnergyAxis® AMI service, we will have reduced upfront costs in IT hardware and software, and have access to an MDM system at a fraction of the cost of purchasing our own. We feel that Elster's mesh technology provides us with important advantages. Their leadership in AMI and Smart Grid technology made Elster the right choice for Whitehall. We look forward to serving our customer-owners better through our use of this technology," said Tina Sass, City Administrator, Whitehall Electric Utility.

"WPPI Energy continues to invest in innovative technologies that enable us to more efficiently operate our electric system while meeting the evolving needs of member utilities such as Whitehall Electric Utility," said WPPI Energy Sr. Vice President of Member and Customer Services Tom Paque.

"Elster's work with Whitehall Electric Utility and WPPI Energy supports our mission to provide utilities with comprehensive and flexible solutions to deliver greater grid efficiency for utilities in all size markets," said Ed Myszka, President, Elster Solutions.
