Phone.com Launches Communicator

Oct 05, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Understanding that businesses require multiple vehicles for communication, Phone.com has expanded the features available via its Virtual Office cloud-based business phone services to include the Communicator "softphone." According to a release, the Communicator is a Windows and Mac OS X application that is installed on a computer and emulates a traditional phone dialer.

With Communicator, the Company said businesspeople can now place or receive calls just as they would through any desk or mobile phone by using a laptop or desktop computer with a microphone, headset or speakers.

Communicator works equally as effective in voice only mode or can be used to create desktop-to-desktop video sessions. "Video calling is going to become more and more important to businesses in the near future," said Ari Rabban, Phone.com co-founder and CEO. "Communicator allows Phone.com customers to quickly and easily add real-time video calling to their communications tools without the need for expensive telephones or video systems." In addition to voicemail, Phone.com noted that Communicator also includes contacts, favorites, history, an address book and call logs. Contacts can be imported or exported from or to other applications. Communicator was developed based on CounterPath's Bria softphone application. CounterPath is a developer of desktop and mobile VoIP software applications that enable service providers and enterprises to integrate unified communication services into their VoIP offerings across both fixed and mobile networks.

According to Todd Carothers, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at CounterPath, "By adding our desktop- and laptop-ready softphone to their service, Phone.com is empowering its enterprise customers with a new way to communicate using voice, video and messaging across multiple platforms and devices. Our Bria softphone technology allows users to enjoy an exemplary communications experience only at a fraction of the cost of traditional telecommunication services." Phone.com is a cloud-based phone company.
