Benton Ridge Telephone Leverages DASAN's GPON for Expanded FTTX Service

DASAN Networks USA, a global leader in Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) solutions with more than six million ONTs installed worldwide, announced today it has been selected by Benton Ridge Telephone to provide GPON last mile access equipment along with Ethernet switches as part of the rural independent local exchange carriers' (ILEC) enhanced service offering. Benton Ridge Telephone, operating as an ILEC in Northwest Ohio and a CLEC in Lima and Portland, Indiana, has been in business since 1902, and has become recognized as one of the most progressive service providers in the U.S. It offers residential triple play services including IPTV (News - Alert) and is a full service ISP, as well as operating a cable company and security services subsidiary.

After beginning its initial FTTX deployment with another vendor for residential broadband, Benton Ridge learned the system used lacked key functionality and equipment to support its important business and institutional customers. hey turned to DASAN Networks due to the combination of DASAN offering GPON on a full Layer 3 switching platform, and having a broad portfolio of GPON ONT's ranging from indoor and outdoor residential models for its triple play requirements to Layer 2 Ethernet switches with GPON interfaces to serve business customers.

Benton Ridge uses DASAN's V5812 mini-OLTs, V5848 medium density OLTs and V8240 high capacity OLTs for its GPON FTTP network. DASAN's H690 outdoor residential ONTs and indoor H640 ONTs are used to provide voice, data and IPTV to residential subscribers, while DASAN's V2824 and V2524G Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Layer 2 Ethernet switches with GPON are used to deliver enterprise-class business services.
