California's City of Riverside Uses RouteMatch Software's Scheduling Technologies to Accommodate Growing Ridership

ATLANTA, GA and RIVERSIDE, CA, Sep 18, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- RouteMatch Software today announced that The City of Riverside now experiences zero rider denials and have added more routes to accommodate ridership, without increasing staff over the past seven years. This has been achieved through collaboration, smart management, and efficiencies -- saving intelligent transportation system technologies provided by RouteMatch Software.

The City of Riverside conducts 600 rides per day on weekdays on a total of 24 routes, allowing riders to schedule trips one week in advance. The ridership is distributed across a number of riders with 40% being subscription-based rides and 60% as scheduled rides.

Approximately 50% of the ridership are non-emergency disabled rides and 50% consists primarily of seniors.

The City of Riverside purchased RouteMatch technologies for its special transportation operations in 2005. At the time, The City of Riverside used a manual scheduling program. With 40 drivers and four dispatchers, the City of Riverside needed a system that would appeal to dispatchers with varying degrees of technical acumen and could be easily customizable.

"RouteMatch really gives us a lot of visibility into our data," said Byron Mayhan, Transit Supervisor for City of Riverside. "I also liked how user friendly it is and its ability to integrate into our other systems. The reporting capabilities have allowed us to fit our specific needs, and the system has been durable." The City of Riverside utilizes RouteMatch for American Disabilities Act (ADA) guideline compliance and federal reports. Currently, its fleet comprises of 30 buses and ridership has increased by 20% over the past two years. This trend is expected to rise as more baby boomers retire to the Riverside area.

"We use the system to manage three different fare types -- cash, punchcards, and tickets," said Mayhan. "The agency operates with five different languages -- Spanish, Korean, Chinese, English and Japanese; we have a very diverse community of riders." Said Tom Coogan, RouteMatch Vice President, West Region, "We are thrilled with the long-term partnership we have established with the City of Riverside, and are impressed with how they have used our technologies to grow with their ridership and the commitment of their management to ridership service. We are proud to be their technology provider." RouteMatch Software will be exhibiting at the California Association for Coordinated Transportation (CalAct) Conference (booth #20) in Monterey, California on Sept. 18-21 at the Monterey Bay Hotel.
