Spirent Unveils LTE Call Reliability Test Solution![]() TMCnet Contributor Recently, Spirent (News - Alert) introduced a new LTE Call Reliability test solution on its 8100 Test System. The solution is validated by a North American wireless operator for immediate use in its acceptance testing of pre-launch devices.
Spirent's 8100 system is an ideal solution for today's UMTS/LTE (News - Alert) mobile device and chipset testing. Its flexible option-based design facilitates the users to add the capability they require when they need it, and supports a wide range of application, location and radio access test areas. Decreasing mobile device return rates and the related high expenses is a priority for major North American wireless operators. As a result of device performance shortcomings, a considerable percentage of returns is attributable to users who experience issues in daily use.
Often named "stress testing," call reliability testing looks to detect problems that can result in returns before devices are commercially installed.
"Spirent pioneered stress testing methodology for 3G device testing, which brought substantial value to wireless operators in helping them to control device return rates," said Spirent vice president Hesham ElHamahmy. "Our customers' confidence in Spirent's extension of this methodology into LTE device testing was reinforced when we uncovered significant issues with some popular commercially-available devices during validation of our LTE Call Reliability solution."
Where the device is used in long periods of time, call dependability testing duplicates realistic user scenarios unlike the standard conformance tests that pre-commercial devices must pass.
The company also recently acquired Metrico Wireless, Inc. for $52 million. Metrico provides services and tools for analyzing the performance and subscriber quality of experience (QoE) of mobile devices in the field and is privately held by Dimitrios Topaltzas and others. The company said this acquisition has improved Spirent's position as a communications technology company.
Spirent will combine Metrico's solutions with its lab-based mobile device performance test solutions. Edited by Braden Becker |
