MEL Telecom Enters a Strategic Business Relationship with AEPONyX for Initiating Sales and Marketing of WDM-PON-Based Carrier Ethernet Platform

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- MEL Telecom (Daejeon, Korea for Headquarters; Brea, California for USA) announces the signing of a strategic business contract with AEPONyX (Montreal, Canada) for initiating sales and marketing of the world's first Carrier Ethernet platform based on WDM-PON technologies. After nearly two years of design and manufacturing followed by actual field deployment, the two companies entered a contract designed to promote effective distribution of the baseline product called MxC-80 capable of supporting 40 business subscribers on a single fiber. The Media Cross(x) Connect (MxC)-80 is a world-first 40-channel Carrier Ethernet transponder shelf featuring unique wavelength and media cross-connect capabilities to bridge CWDM and 1000BaseT networks with WDM-PON networks.

"With tight yet flexible integration of 40-channel DWDM SFP ports and 16-channel CWDM ports with a total of combined 80 SFP TRx, we are able to unleash single fiber WDM-PON technologies for the delivery of Carrier Ethernet service from data centers to the broadband business subscribers at 1Gbps data rate," says Dr. Benjamin BW Kim, CEO of MEL Telecom. He adds that the platform is modular in construction, as a twelve-slot carrier-class -48v dc shelf of 19" 3 rack units, equipped with up to 10 Carrier Ethernet switches, each holding 8 SFP positions, a network control card monitoring Ethernet service, and a high-density WDM-PON passive multiplexer channeling 40 C+L lambdas fully passively.

The MxC-80 is available immediately via the sales channels of AEPONyX from North America first. Ben Kim says, "We are negotiating with first-tier telecom system companies in Korea for quick application to one of the major wireless service operators." "Details on the MxC platform will be announced by AEPONyX as it will be unveiled at the forthcoming ECOC2012 Exhibition in Amsterdam, SEP 17~19 (booth/stand 704)," he adds.

"We welcome a synergetic drive in promoting the WDM-PON system together with the world's leading WDM-PON technology creator MEL Telecom, and our conclusive trials with a major customer in Montreal backs this up," says Francois Tessier, CEO of AEPONyX.
