United States : TriQuint's New GaAs MMICs Provide Cost-Effective Solutions For KA-Band VSAT Ground Stations [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TriQuint Semiconductor Inc., a leading RF solutions supplier and technology innovator, has introduced complete, cost-effective Ka-band gallium arsenide (GaAs) RF chipsets to support key requirements in very small aperture terminal (VSAT) satellite communications systems. The family includes a variable-gain driver amplifier, a 1 Watt GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) power amplifier, a subharmonic upconverter and a highly-integrated block downconverter.

Since VSAT systems were first introduced in the 1980s they have redefined modern point-of-sale transaction processing as well as fixed and portable wideband systems for military and maritime communications. Many of today s satellite systems operate at Ku- and Ka-bands. Ka-band frequencies (28 to 31 GHz) offer the opportunity for higher rate data communications, high-definition satellite television, and other bandwidth-intensive applications. TriQuint s new chipset supports this market including new services soon to be offered through the Hughes EchoStar XVII (Jupiter) satellite that was launched successfully in July; its 60 Ka-band transponders are designed to provide HughesNet broadband services to consumers, businesses and government customers across North America.

TriQuint s new VSAT amplifiers include the TGA4541-SM highly linear variable gain driver amplifier and TGA4539-SM 1W RF power amplifier. The TGA4541-SM operates over a 28 to 31 GHz frequency range with P1dB RF output power of +23dBm, gain of 33dB, and an output third-order intercept point (OIP3) of +31dBm. Its output can be varied over a wide 30dB range. The TGA4539-SM amplifier delivers P1dB RF output power of 1W (+30dBm), gain of 20dB from 28 to 30 GHz, and an OIP3 of 33dBm.

The highly-integrated TGC4408-SM block downconverter includes dual-band switchable VCOs and a subharmonic mixer with LNA and LO buffer amplifiers in a 32-pin 5x6-mm QFN package. It has an input frequency range of 18.3 to 20.2 GHz and an IF frequency of 950 to 1950 MHz with conversion gain of 8.5dB, noise figure of 6.5dB, and phase noise of -73dBc/Hz at a 10kHz offset and -126dBc/Hz at a 1MHz offset. It also has a differential signal at one quarter of the VCO frequency that can be used in a phase-locked loop. The TGC4407-SM subharmonic upconverter has an integrated local oscillator buffer amplifier that has an input frequency range of 21.5 to 32.5 GHz, wide IF range of DC to 7 GHz, subharmonic LO frequency of 11 to 16 GHz, accepts an LO input power of 0 to +7.5dBm, and has conversion gain of -9dB.
