General Dynamics to Provide Cloud Email Services to Federal, State, Local and Tribal Governments

FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been selected as one of 17 companies to provide cloud-based email services through blanket purchase agreements issued by the General Services Administration (GSA). The contract will cover five years. Federal, state, local and tribal governments can now use the General Dynamics' GSA Email-as-a-Service (EaaS) blanket purchase agreement to rapidly procure cloud-based email, office automation, electronic records management, migration and integration services.

General Dynamics' Email-as-a-Service offering is a scalable, highly virtualized email communications and data storage system that can be tailored to unique requirements. In addition to core email functionality, the EaaS solution includes end-to-end security features that incorporate and enforce specific agency policies. The EaaS solution features archiving, eDiscovery, records management and office automation tools and also integrates email with other agency systems and applications to allow users to view, collaborate and exchange information from external systems such as procurement, enterprise monitoring and time tracking - extending the functionality of email and providing immediate access to mission-critical information from a single view. General Dynamics also has a network of data centers, all located within the United States, that provide redundancy and high-level service availability.

"As the transition to the cloud is happening at an ever increasing rate, General Dynamics can assist agencies in leveraging the benefits of the cloud to their advantage, including greater effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility," said Marcus Collier, senior vice president for General Dynamics Information Technology's Health and Civilian Solutions Division. "As a trusted systems integrator of cloud and data storage solutions, we understand the unique challenges and considerations government agencies face as they embrace cloud computing. We look forward to providing the flexibility and security that our customers need while helping them maximize the savings and efficiencies that cloud computing offers." In addition to this BPA, General Dynamics' added EaaS to their GSA IT Schedule 70 last year and was selected as one of 12 awardees by the GSA for the Infrastructure as a Service BPA in October 2010.
