(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Yahoo CEO Mayer's pay package worth more than $59MNEW YORK (AP) _ Yahoo is giving its new chief executive Marissa Mayer a compensation package worth more than $59 million over the next several years. Yahoo Inc. said in a regulatory filing Thursday that Mayer will receive an annual salary of $1 million. She's also eligible for a $2 million bonus, and $12 million in restricted stock and stock options that will vest over the next three years.



Sexual harassment lawsuit roils Silicon ValleySAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The Silicon Valley venture capital firm of Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfied & Byers has been generating buzz for decades, spotting early investment opportunities and making billions with companies like Google and Amazon. This summer, the attention is no different, but the reason for it is. The firm, with a roster of senior partners including Al Gore and Colin Powell, is embroiled in a lawsuit that's the talk of the valley, exchanging nasty accusations with a junior partner who accuses Kleiner of gender bias, sexual harassment and overall boorish behavior toward women.

Vodafone Q3 revenue down 7.7 percentLONDON (AP) _ Vodafone Group PLC, Europe's largest mobile phone company, said Friday that revenue fell by 7.7 percent in the three months ending June 30 compared with a year earlier as gains in emerging markets were offset by a patchy performance in Europe. Adverse currency movements also dented revenue as the company's performance fell short of market forecasts.


Google's 2Q earnings rise as clicks on ads soarSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Google is getting even better at showing online ads to the right people at the right time. That enabled the Internet search leader to hit analysts' earnings target for the second quarter and reassure investors about the company's moneymaking prowess. The results announced Thursday were muddled by Google's recently completed $12.5 billion acquisition of cellphone maker Motorola Mobility Holdings and a dramatic swing in currency exchange rates that resulted in European sales converting into fewer U.S. dollars than at the same time last year.

Online campaign winds down for bullied NY womanGREECE, N.Y. (AP) _ An online campaign that aimed to raise $5,000 to send a bullied bus monitor on vacation is winding down _ after tallying more than $683,000. As the monthlong campaign neared its end Friday, a spokeswoman for the fundraising site Indiegogo said more than 30,000 people had contributed to 68-year-old Karen Klein, with donations coming in from 84 countries and all 50 states.

Microsoft reports first loss as public companyLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Microsoft posted its first quarterly loss in its 26 years as a public company on Thursday as it declared a struggling online ad business a bust and prepared for one of the biggest product updates in its history. The software company had warned two weeks ago that it would take a $6.2 billion charge in the April-June quarter because its 2007 purchase of online ad service aQuantive failed to help it compete with Google Inc. The amount reflected the bulk of the $6.3 billion acquisition cost.

Earnings Preview: AT&T to report 2Q resultsNEW YORK (AP) _ AT&T Inc., the largest telecommunications company in the U.S., reports second-quarter results Tuesday before the stock market opens. Its biggest nemesis, Verizon Wireless, reported strong results Thursday. WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The quarter has lacked major drama for AT&T. Investors are still wondering AT&T will be able to curb its outlays for iPhones, which it sells heavily subsidized, but the true test of that will come later this year, when Apple releases a new model.

New iPad goes on sale in China after suit settledBEIJING (AP) _ Apple released its newest iPad in China on Friday after settling a lawsuit over ownership of its name and requiring buyers to place orders in advance to control crowds. Watched by security guards, a few dozen shoppers waited outside stores in Beijing and Shanghai, which opened on time at 8 a.m. That was in contrast to the chaotic scene outside Apple's main Beijing store in January, when some customers who wanted to buy a new iPhone shouted and threw eggs after managers delayed the opening due to safety concerns about the hundreds of people waiting.

App detects potholes, alerts Boston city officialsBOSTON (AP) _ The next time your car hits a pothole, a new technology could help you immediately tell someone who can do something about it. Boston officials are testing an app called Street Bump that allows drivers to automatically report the road hazards to the city as soon as they hear that unfortunate "thud," with their smartphones doing all the work.

Venture funding falls 12 percent in 2Q to $7BNEW YORK (AP) _ Funding for startups fell 12 percent in the April-June period as venture capitalists poured less money into fewer deals than a year earlier. But the number of companies getting funded in the earliest stages of development reached the highest level in more than a decade _ a hopeful sign for the broader economy and an indication that investors are willing to wait for returns. A report due out Friday says that startup investments slipped to $7 billion in the second quarter, down from $8 billion in the same period a year earlier. The companies getting funded were mainly in the software, Internet, industrial, and energy sectors. There were 898 deals completed during the quarter, down 15 percent from 1,057 a year earlier.
