OBN arrests 30 across state on meth complaints

Jul 16, 2012 (Enid News & Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- State and federal law enforcement officers have broken up a large-scale Mexican methamphetamine ring in central Oklahoma by serving 30 arrest warrants after a yearlong undercover investigation.

Mark Woodward, spokesman for Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, said the majority of the warrants were executed in Oklahoma County. By noon Monday, 17 people were in custody on complaints of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, as well as other complaints.

"Last summer, we identified a large group of individuals bringing significant quantities of Mexican-produced methamphetamine into central Oklahoma for distribution," Woodward said. "These shipments would include as much as 10 pounds of meth each week. So, this network was considered a major supplier of meth throughout central Oklahoma." OBN agents, along with officers for U.S. Immigration Customs began serving the warrants Monday morning and transported those arrested to the Oklahoma County jail for booking.

Over the past year, Woodward said agents targeted and identified those people tied to the meth network. The group brought meth shipments into central Oklahoma and would divide and re-sell their smaller shipments in several communities, including Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, Anadarko and Watonga.

OBN Director Darrell Weaver said his agency will work to dismantle these networks supplying meth to the streets of Oklahoma.

"This is a tremendous organization which we have infiltrated and investigated along with our partners at Homeland Security Investigations," he said. "We have used covert operations to penetrate a very significant group of drug violators, which has made countless amounts of money while distributing their addictive substance.

"Methamphetamine is a destructive foe, and we have to be vigilant in our fight to defeat the supply of this hideous drug. We must simply never give up our fight." ___ (c)2012 the Enid News & Eagle (Enid, Okla.) Visit the Enid News & Eagle (Enid, Okla.) at www.enidnews.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
