OVH.com's technology finally available in North-AmericaMONTREAL, Jul 13, 2012, 2012 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- The leading webhosting company in Europe*, OVH.com is ready to launch the first servers for its North-American customers. In less than six months, what used to be an industrial site in Beauharnois (Quebec), has become a high capacity, fully operational data center from which the host will be able to replicate, in Canada, the quality and performance of its European offers. Starting on July 12(th) until August 15(th )2012, 10 000 machines will be regularly made available to users, free of charge and without any obligation, a first in webhosting. A radically different approach To succeed on the Internet market, OVH.com has adopted a simple formula from the very start, think outside the box to offer better services at lower prices. In an industry where most players follow short-term strategies, the webhosting company aims for the long term by building its own data centers, developing its own air-conditioning free cooling systems, by designing and assembling its own servers, by managing its own optical fiber network and providing in-house technical support with its own teams. To build its 9(th) data center, its first on the American continent, OVH.com relied on this model that has been a success in Europe for more than a decade. As a result of this unique configuration, the host will be able to offer its dedicated servers at the same price as in Europe i.e.: a quarter of the price of its American competitors. Optimal performance For this, the new data center is entirely powered by green energy coming from a hydro dam located less than 300 meters away from the building. OVH.com plans to eventually consume 40 MVA, with a PUE under 1.1. Unlike its competitors, OVH.com has also invested in and deployed a network that covers Canada and the United States. Based on the new coherent 100G technology, this equipment makes it possible to manage a high capacity (10 Tbps) fully redundant network. This means the host ensures 100% network availability and low latencies. Also being poles apart from its competition, who occupy a number of different buildings, OVH.com chose to build a data center along the East coast on an unprecedented scale. In the end, this data center will have a total capacity of 360,000 physical servers. This method, requires a significant initial investment, but allows for future industrialization that in time will achieve great economies of scale. Finally, OVH.com doesn't buy its servers pre-made, but builds them in their own production chains located directly in the data center. As a result, each day, up to 400 servers can be assembled per the customer's specifications and delivered within 1 hour.
