Transmode announces Intelligent Sync (iSync) capabilities

(Thomson Reuters ONE via COMTEX) -- WDM and Next Generation Networking, Monaco and Stockholm, Sweden - 19th June 2012 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet-optical networking solutions, today announced the company's Intelligent Sync (iSync) capabilities for superior sync performance, monitoring and management.

Transmode's packet-optical portfolio has brought superior sync performance to network operators across the globe for many years. As the company's portfolio and capabilities has expanded and as network synchronization continues to become increasingly important in many networks, the company has introduced new synchronization management and monitoring functionality into the Intelligent Sync (iSync) set of capabilities.

iSync covers 3 main areas of sync capabilities within the Transmode portfolio: Outstanding Sync Monitoring and Management -Good sync is of limited use if it isn't monitorable and manageable by network operations. Transmode's iSync solution now provides users with new Sync management maps and full sync source protection switching. In addition, Transmode has today announced a new partnership with Chronos Technology, a leading provider of sync monitoring and management through the Enlighten(TM) Ecosystem program. This partnership adds industry independent SyncWatch probes with the associated SyncWatch NetSMART software fully integrated into Transmode's Enlighten multi-layer management suite.

Industry leading Layer 2 Sync performance - Though the innovative design of Transmode's Layer 2 Ethernet Muxponder (EMXP) family, Transmode's customers are able to deploy networks with industry leading SyncE performance. These networks also provide the ideal foundation for 1588v2 deployments due to their extremely low latency and low jitter. Using these capabilities, Transmode's customers have been able to deploy mobile backhaul networks with sync performance that are an order of magnitude or more better than previous SDH/SONET synchronized networks.

Patented Layer 1 Sync with multiple sync domains per wavelength - Transporting transparent synchronization within a framed WDM wavelength, i.e. once a header is added for management, forward error correction etc, is not easy and not all WDM vendors are able to transport signals transparently while also maintaining any embedded synchronization. Transmode not only achieves this but takes it one stage further using muxponders, with patent protected sync functionality, that supports multiple independent sync signals over a single wavelength. This is particularly useful in a wholesale environment where an operator may need to support many wireless operators with differing sync strategies and clocks.

Sten Nordell, Transmode's CTO commented, "Good synchronization has been at the heart of Transmode going back to the founders of the company having a deep understanding and experience of the issues and the subtleties required to make sync work well in a real network environments. iSync captures this depth of knowledge with hardware and management capabilities coming together to create networks that enable our customers to build the best performing networks".

In an associated press release today, Transmode also announced the company's Enlighten multi-layer management suite and Ecosystem with first partner - Chronos Technology Limited, that brings sync monitoring and management capabilities to the solution.
