Alpha Technologies, powering the evolution of the Network, announces new power products to support emerging network architectures

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 5, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Alpha Technologies Ltd., the power behind the evolution of communications networks, today announced a series of new products that address the changing topologies of wireline and wireless networks. The products include larger systems for switching centers plus high efficiency rectifiers that reduce energy consumption and lower cost. The new products will be displayed at TIA 2012: Inside the Network (Booth# 808) on June 5-7 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

"Wireline network architectures are undergoing some fundamental changes," said Mike Burkhalter, Vice President of US Telecom Sales for Alpha. "In wireline Central Offices, routers, servers and other data-centric devices concentrate power consumption and heat generation in equipment aisles, causing carriers to reconsider the best way to power and cool the devices. Alpha's new power systems revolutionize bulk power as well as distributed power topologies in the CO. An additional application of the new system is a stand-alone rectifier bay that is an ideal replacement for older Ferroresonant rectifiers, providing an immediate reduction in energy consumption and Operating Expenses. We are continuing to improve rectifier efficiency in our power conversion products, with our new 2.4kW rectifier achieving greater than 96% efficiency." The CXPS-D 48-5000 is an ultra-compact, high capacity, high efficiency, intelligent power system with flexible distribution options that enables service providers to locate the power plant near the connected equipment, eliminating BDFB's and the associated cabling and installation costs. A single bay provides up to 2,500 Amps and 96 distribution positions. The CXPS-D is controlled by Alpha's Cordex Controller. For more information, visit www.alpha.ca/CXPS-D.

The CXPS-C 48-10000 is a next generation centralized DC power plant that combines ease of service, installation, and maintenance in a large switching center plant, enabling service providers to realize the economic benefits of high efficiency rectifiers, high density design and intelligent control. The system provides up to 4,000 Amps in a single rectifier bay, and up to 10,000 Amps in a multi-bay configuration, making the rectifier bay ideal for either large centralized plants or for drop in replacement of older Ferro rectifiers. Both the CXPS-C and CXPS-D use the same rectifiers and same Cordex Controller. For more information, visit www.alpha.ca/CXPS-C.

The Cordex HP(TM) 2.4kW Rectifier is a high performance, low profile 48V rectifier with over 96% efficiency, that enables service providers to save space and energy costs in a wide range of applications including central office, headend, backhaul, DAS and wireless base stations.
