Galaxy Broadband Communications Opts for Encore Networks for Satellite Network Solutions

May 29, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Encore Networks, a supplier of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) solutions for fixed and wireless communications, said that Galaxy Broadband Communications Inc. has selected its Bandit line of industrially hardened routers for their satellite networks, systems and solutions throughout North America.

According to the Company, Galaxy is a Canadian satellite communications company that provides IP networks to the Resource, Government and Enterprise markets. Galaxy deployed its first satellite services in 1992, and has evolved to provide satellite solutions by delivering High Speed Data and VoIP Network connectivity that meets the needs of remote and underserved areas.

Encore said that its Bandit family of rugged routers is designed for SCADA and other harsh network environments. Used in locations where environmental controls are limited, such as power distribution sub-stations including wind and solar, and oil and gas pipelines and drill sites, the Bandit ensures secure, high throughput data networking connections directly to a VSAT satellite network in either primary or back-up applications for both legacy and IP-based applications.

"Galaxy will utilize the Bandit with their quick-deploy satellite system for those who require a rugged, easily transportable communication solution in remote locations like utility sub-stations and oil pipelines," said Scott Burk, Encore Networks Director of Sales. "With their experience and understanding of the challenges providing satellite-based communications to remote areas, defining and delivering low-cost, portable broadband VPN solutions have become a reality." The patented Selective Layer Encryption (SLE) feature in the Bandit is an encryption technology that securely connects satellite networks with terrestrial Internet links as part of a VPN solution. SLE allows satellite users, requiring secure access, to realize the full potential of their limited satellite bandwidth without the performance degradation associated with off-the-shelf VPN products.

"We now provide our oil and gas exploration customers with an economical and easy to deploy satellite communication solution," said Doug Harvey, Galaxy Vice President of Business Development. "Galaxy's strategic relationship with Encore ensures quality, simple to use network solutions and services for a wide variety of remote satellite applications like VoIP, RoIP, Fax, Video and SCADA over IP and VPN services."
