[May 28, 2012] M S University to beef up security with wireless handsets [Vadodara] [Times of India] Tweet (Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) VADODARA: Don't be surprised if you spot an M S University official with a wireless handset much like a cop in the city. With the aim to strengthen security on the campus, MSU has procured six wireless handsets that will be used for better coordination between university officials and cops. Of the six wireless handsets that have been procured on an experimental basis, four have been installed in the university and two will be for Fatehgunj and Sayajigunj police stations. "We had approached the city police with this proposal so that there is a better coordination whenever there is a security issue on the campus," MSU vice-chancellor professor Yogesh Singh told TOI on Saturday. He said since last week one wireless handset each has been installed at the vice-chancellor's office, the registrar's office, the chief warden and the security officer of the campus. The two other handsets will be soon installed at the police stations. "Based on the results of this experiment, we will go for procuring more such handsets for all the university officials like proctor or others who are directly related to student centric activities," Singh said. Sources suggest that apart from coordinating with cops of the police stations located within MSU's jurisdiction, the idea is also to also put indirect pressure on the university officials so that they respond to such situations on time. "In the traditional systems, the flow of information is just one to one basis. But here with wireless handsets everybody listens to the messages that flow into the system. So, the vice-chancellor will be aware about what message a security officer has received and the registrar too would know the communication exchanged between the chief warden and the security officer," said an official, adding that such a system, where everybody is in the loop, provides little space for any blame game.
