Apple Q1 Sold 6.2mn Mobile Phones in China

BEIJING, May 24, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s sales volume of mobile phone increased from 2.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2011 to 6.2 million in the first quarter of 2012 in China.

At the same time, the market share taken by Apple in China's mobile phone market rose from 8% to 19%.

Even though Apple has partnerships with two of China's mobile operators, the sales volume of its mobile phone is still much lower than that of Samsung's. The sales volume of Samsung's mobile phone hiked from 6.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2011 to 9 million in the first quarter of 2012 in China.

The sales volume of smart phone in China was 32 million in the first quarter, rising 156% year on year. There is still a great potential in Chinese market, where the sales volume of smart phone now takes about 30% of the total, according to a report issued by Woori Investment and Securities on May 23.
