Yardbird's owner buys Miami branding firm [The Miami Herald]

(Miami Herald (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 05--The founder of Lime Fresh Mexican Grill and Yardbird Southern Table and Bar is getting into the full-service brand management business by acquiring Southern Brand Collective, a Miami branding and marketing firm.

John Kunkel announced the acquisition of Southern Brand, which as of May 1 merged into his existing 50 Eggs Restaurant Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Going forward the company will become 50 Eggs, a commercial creative agency specializing in brand conception and strategy, interior design, construction, social media, public relations, marketing, operations and financial planning.

"By combining the talents of our two firms and housing so many multidisciplinary talents under one roof, we have positioned 50 Eggs as a truly unique agency," said Kunkel, 50 Eggs founder and chief executive officer. "Our team can not only create or recreate a brand, but we are able to execute and maintain our vision as well." Kunkel last month sold the homegrown Lime Fresh to Ruby Tuesday's for $24 million in cash, although he still owns the original South Beach store and will be a member of Ruby Tuesday's board of directors. This fall he will open Swine Southern Table and Bar in Coral Gables, a sister restaurant to Yardbird featuring a pork-focused menu.


The Southern Brand Collective's client roster will operate under the 50 Eggs umbrella going forward. The company's clients have included The Miami Heat, Motorola, MTV Networks, Couples Resorts, Florida Marlins, Live Nation and Lime Fresh Mexican Grill.
