SOA Software Delivers IBM DataPower Appliance Management

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/23/12 -- SOA Software, a leading provider of SOA governance, cloud and enterprise API management products, is augmenting the IBM WebSphere DataPower customer experience with its latest release of Policy Manager for DataPower. The new "Ready-to-use" SOA governance solution builds on the company's extensive experience integrating SOA run time components and reduces administrative overhead, and ensures consistent policy and service definition. DataPower customers can turbo charge their DataPower-based SOA infrastructure with an increasingly rich set of features such as automated deployment, contracts, advanced policy management, security, and PKI management. SOA Software is also continuing to improve its IBM offering by codifying a number of proven patterns that deploy services to DataPower appliances using a policy-based approach.

"We have created something special for appliances in the SOA architecture," said Alistair Farquharson, CTO of SOA Software. "In the case of Policy Manager for DataPower, we have taken our best practices from the field and packaged them into an appliance-specific solution that will help enterprises benefit from DataPower appliances as core instruments of SOA governance." SOA Software Policy Manager for IBM WebSphere DataPower "Ready-to-use" governance features such as monitoring and policy management are ready to use out of the box. Dashboard, real-time charts, and quality of service offer round the clock feedback. In its new release, Policy Manager provides added features, as well as a set of patterns, for the configuration of DataPower that allows customers to manage for common security, transformation and integration use cases: Preset service deployment and metadata configuration - reduces administrative overhead and ensures consistency in proxy (virtual) service and configuration metadata across DataPower appliances. Automated policy management - standardizes installation processes and ensures consistent application of approved enterprise security and management policies across all service instances over a cluster of appliances. Cluster managementpatterns - manages groups of DataPower appliances as clusters, ensuring that they all share the same configuration with a single centralized management and monitoring console. Guidelines for SLA monitoring and management - helps with definition, contracts, management and monitoring of service level agreement policies for services deployed in a single appliance or clusters of appliances. Centralized cryptographic key and certificate management - eliminates costly and risky manual processes by automating the generation and management of the keys and certificates DataPower uses for message and transport signature and encryption.

A recent success story with SOA Software and DataPower took place at a US-based global financial services company. With a large deployment of DataPower appliances, the company needed a ready-to-use SOA governance solution that could effectively provide development time and run time governance amongst departments, partners, IT services, and back end systems. The goal was to arrive at a solution that could reduce the complexity of governing a large set of interconnected technology components that make up an SOA, including IBM WebSphere DataPower. By utilizing SOA Software Policy Manager for DataPower, they could make services operational on the IBM WebSphere DataPower platform according to enterprise standards with an eye toward efficiency, time to market, accuracy and operational effectiveness.

SOA Software's deep integration with IBM WebSphere DataPower appliances provides customers with the ability to control the DataPower Appliance directly from the Policy Manager console, without the need to duplicate configuration manually. This provides customers with a 'one-click' management strategy leveraging DataPower as the runtime and the SOA Software's Policy Manager as the source of service and policy information as well as the reporting console for the monitoring data. SOA Software's Policy Manager is unique in its ability to manage the catalog of services, drive policy definition and distribution, and collect and display monitoring data for the DataPower devices, providing end-to-end policy enforcement and transaction monitoring. It allows customers to implement and enforce consistent, uniform policies throughout their infrastructure, and provides visibility into enterprise service usage, performance, and availability from network edge to application.
