AppMobi releases graphics acceleration software [Central Penn Business Journal (PA)]
(Central Penn Business Journal (PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Lancaster-based appMobi this week released the beta version of a software development tool designed to dramatically improve the graphics of applications that run on Android-based mobile
AppMobi's directCanvas technology "dramatically accelerates the speed of screen refresh rates in games and apps that use the HTML5 canvas element," in some cases by a factor of more than 10, the company said in a statement.
Screen refresh speed is a key factor in making programs, particularly games, run fluidly.
DirectCanvas can give a game using HTML5 the look and feel of a native app, appMobi said.
AppMobi unveiled the Android directCanvas beta at the 2012 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. In November, appMobi released a version of directCanvas for Apple's iOS operating system for mobile devices.
Game developers can apply to appMobi to join the beta program. AppMobi will release directCanvas for Android as open source software once beta testing is completed.
