NMSU OASIS Club to host annual Earth Day fest

LAS CRUCES, Apr 13, 2012 (Las Cruces Sun-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The New Mexico State University Organization of Aggie Students Inspiring Sustainability (OASIS) Club will host its fifth annual Earth Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. The event is free and will be held at Young Park on the corner of South Walnut Street and Nevada Avenue in Las Cruces.

The celebration includes live bands, entertainers, educational booths, vendors and children's activities, along with arts and science activities. This is a family-friendly environment that promotes sustainable living, sustainable practices, communication and fun.

Other local Earth Day-related events include the city's Earth Week April 16-20 and the Associated Students of New Mexico State University (ASNMSU) Earth Week April 23-27.

Earth Day is organized each year to encourage a greater understanding of contemporary environmental issues. OASIS wants to increase communication between NMSU and the entire Las Cruces community to promote healthy, clean and safe activities.

OASIS has hosted four Earth Day festivals since 2008, Arbor Day tree plantings at public schools and a sustainability film series during the fall. The club's mission is to inspire a balance between environmental, social and economic viability within the community.
